Skinny Genes: Teens Trying to “Fit into” a Weight Obsessed World
By Dena Cabrera, Psy.D
Our society is full of mixed messages, confusing images, and pressures that promote obesity but reward thinness. Many teenagers feel the pressure to starve themselves and others eat way too much. This workshop will address ways to make needed changes at home, school, and in the wider culture. Dr. Cabrera describes three risk and protective factors in teens for weight-related problems. Teaches four principles for promoting positive body image in teenagers and shows ways to improve media literacy with teens.
